Was able to access initial 3 machine collection (apparently there are more throughout the facility; I explained my penny search, and they allowed me in w/o purchasing a ticket. I was startled to find these machines are electronic; each machine has 4 different designs, however, it only takes $1.00 bills - no pennies needed. Or you can use a card, but only if you want all 4 coins. I went into the gift shop to change my quarters for a $1 bill because we had driven off our route to visit their machine and I wanted a sea turtle. I had wanted 2 other designs, but to me, $3.00 is a demonstration of someone choosing to hide behind modernity to charge double for a fun, nostalgic souvenir scavenger hunt without any extra benefit while actually diminishing the experience for the “hunter”. - rgray007Freecandi added Oregon Coast Aquarium to system.
